New Album for the Week
August 17th 2007 20:40
Let's start this jam with an album I just picked up and have had playing nonstop day and night.
Kid Confucius
Their self titled album is, in my opinion, one of the best musical offerings from Australia.
A slick mix of soul, funk, R&B, rap, jazz, a little bit of rock- how can you not enjoy it?
Personal favourites: The opening track "Mister" has that rock edge that keeps the feet tappin', the head bouncin' and the hands bangin' the air drums; and to slowly bring the tempo down from rock to soul "Lady Day" will have you swayin along with the smooth lyrical rhythm from the beginning ("getting husky like lady day singing something about the weather...); and to wrap the album off perfectly is "This Is Where I Live" a song perfect for setting the mood or just playing, playing, playing...
Generally, I have my doubts when it comes to Australian music- but Kid Confucius has instilled a new sense of hope which they carry on to their sophomore album Stripes.
So why not, eh? Go out have a listen and get it on...trust me, the music will lead the way.
