Musex

Music to get your Bedroom Groove on...

Once a week there will be a Musex special. Spotlighting an album that I think would be perfect for a "bedroom groove session". You know what I mean.
This week, since it is the first one, is a top ten list. These aren't the "TOP" ten songs, they are just ten suggestions, really...So on with it...

1. Closer-NIN
Yeah, not a typical pick I know but there is something about this song. Maybe it's the boom crunch rhythm behind the whole song. Whatever it is, this song is perfect of brining up those pure animalistic fucking notions.

2. Mercy, Mercy Me- Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye always makes these lists doesn't he? With good reason too. But you can't have the typical "Let's Get it On" or "Sexual Healing"...be somewhat original, yeah? Now this one...this is a smooth song that plays quietly and fills the room with those nice little sexual vibes the Beach Boys sing about.

3. If Loving You is Wrong I don't want to be Right- Luther Ingram
This song just oozes pure sex. That's it.

4. Maggot Brain- Funkadelic
Don't pay attention to the name. Just listen...it's all beauty.

5. Let's Get Lifted Again, John Legend.
He's the new Marvin Gaye, and even though this song is short the lack of lyrics and just the vocal notes with the piano and guitar. Perfect.

6. It's a Man's Man's Man's World, James Brown.
In my opinion this is the best James Brown song. It's slow but passionate. Just like other things should be, right?

7. I Could Have Lied, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In my opinion, most rock songs don't 'set the mood.' But this one breaks the mold simply by being simple...the song doesn't have many instrumental layers or loud screaming...it's like soul-rock.

8. Marching the Hate Machines (Into the Sun), Thievery Corporation and Flaming Lips.
It's that kind of ambient music that, no matter how good the song is, just becomes atmosphere which is what this one does in the best of ways.

9. Devil Song, Beth Orton
Some of these, I've noticed, haven't been the happiest of songs. This song though, despite the sadness in the lyrics, has the sound.

10.Lady Day, Kid Confucius
I reviewed this in my second post, and honestly, despite it being one of my favourite songs, I rank this one up there with any Marvin Gaye or Barry White song.

Enjoy, groove, and get it on
Your M.C.
